Hey folks!
Slalom on the Fourth will be happening again this year (as it has for the last 15+)! The event is an inline slalom expo/demo and free skate instruction event. We set up 2 30big-cone courses, and 2 small cone. Please check the website for a bit of history.
Big cones, small cones, we'll have them all.
Just come on out to skate. If you haven't tried slalom, it's a great place to start, if you have, then you know the fun waiting.
WHEN: July 4th from 10am-6pm (courses should be up from 11a-5p)
WHERE: On Storrow Drive under the Mass. Ave. bridge
WEBSITE: http://slalomonthefourth.com/
WEATHER: Partly Cloudy 81/61
If there's rain, we're just going to skate under the bridge:
probably small cones only.
Hope to see you there!

Yes, I come up from Orlando every year for this.
P.S.: The permit has been applied for; we may not need it; still waiting to hear for sure. But they said, either way, we can have the event. If that changes, I'll post it.
P.P.S.: If you do plan on coming, please let me know so I know to look for you! Thanks!

Many in inline speedskating had found racereports.net an invaluable resource for latest product news, discussion of technique, and announcement and reporting about events. A few months ago, the site disappeared, replaced by a smiley face. Ouch.
Come to find out (over on the Bont message board), it's preserved, but inactive. The folks hosting it explain why.
Have a look
From email:

Whether it's urban, rural or at a local park; you decide!
The best clips will be used in an amazing montage of global perspective and you could win a free pair of brand new Rollerblade inline skates!
Spread the word!
A disparity: the email says Sept. 1 deadline, the website says Sept 30.
As seen in the UK Daily Mail {article}, gas powered skates are available from China. Seems familiar, haven't we seen this before? Either way, the article emphasizes the top speed of 20mph as some sort of crazy fast, death-inducing speed. Good to know next time you are going that fast without an engine...
The Big Apple Roll Skate Weekend 2007 in NYC, Friday August 24 through Sunday August 26, will be free, as in no registration fee.
